Six Chilean firefighters were killed in a wildfire in the South American country that authorities say may have been started by radical indigenous activists.

According to the Associated Press (http://bit.ly/A7bbvx), 10 firefighters became trapped on Thursday when the wildland fire they were tackling in a mountain forest near suddenly changed direction. Six firefighters were killed, two were rescued by helicopter but suffered severe burns, and another one was missing. One other firefighter managed to escape.

There have been more than 50 wildfires during the early part of the Chilean summer. Scores of homes have been destroyed and more than 100,000 acres have burned.
