A basic management function for officers may include the discipline of members who fail to meet department expectations or standards. Most organizations will define the limits of discipline and punishment that a officer can issue, but the ability to avoid the use of formal discipline of a member is even more important.Discipline should be used after other coaching/counseling is used without success.
