FLAME-SIM software demonstrated at FDIC 2008

Developers demonstrated FLAME-SIM, a first-of-its-kind real-time, real world 3-D firefighter training simulator, to thousands of firefighters during FDIC 2008 from April 10 to April 12. Their mission over the past 16 months was to create a useful and accurate training tool for first-arriving companies and battalions to train communication and decision-making on the fireground, and ultimately save lives.

During an interview at the FLAME-SIM booth the editor of Fire Engineering magazine, Chief (ret.) Bobby Halton said tactical simulations were "the future of training in the fire service" and "brought the tools used by the military" to bear for firefighters worldwide.

Designed with input from leading fire professionals and research into NFPA and NIST documents, the 3-D computer simulation puts the trainee in "real world" situations in a totally interactive training environment that challenges them either randomly or by instructor-directed programming to apply theoretical training to reenacting actual firefighting situations.

FLAME-SIM is scheduled to be released in summer 2008 and has pre-sold copies already to numerous departments across the U.S., as part of the FLAME-SIM early adopter program.
