EPA Recognizes ICC-ES as Certification Body for the EPA Seal and Insulate with ENERGY STAR Program

ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Certification Body (CB) for the Seal & Insulate with ENERGY STAR ® Program. This program applies to residential insulation intended for use in whole wall, ceiling, roof deck, and floor systems.

"EPA's Seal and Insulate Program has a number of enhancements, including requirements for independent third-party testing and certification, reporting of surface-burning characteristics that establish compliance with the requirements of the International Residential Code (IRC) and International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) as well as installation instructions," said Rob Brooks, Director of ICC-ES Environmental Programs. "ICC-ES can provide manufacturers with certification to both the requirements of the I-Codes and the Seal & Insulate Program as well as environmental attributes such as recycled or bio-based content."

All existing ICC-ES report holders whose reports include recognition under the 2009 or 2012 IRC and IECC, as well as future applicants for reports under those codes, are eligible to apply to have their products evaluated for participation in the Seal & Insulate with ENERGY STAR® Program. Those who are interested in obtaining certification should contact ICC-ES for more information.

The specific testing requirements are available on the EPA ENERGY STAR® Web site under the title, Definitions and Testing Requirements for Residential Insulation (version 1.0).
