One person was killed during a fire Saturday night at a homeless encampment near Lakewood, New Jersey.
The Asbury Park Press (http://on.app.com/xnGSIS) reports that firefighters had a difficult time reaching the fire scene near some railroad tracks because of heavy brush. Service to the railroad tracks was immediately shut down during the incident.
Firefighters found the body of the fire victim after they had extinguished the flames. The body has yet to be identified. At least six other people lost their shelter and possessions in the fire.
The camp, known as Tent City, is purportedly the original site of a much larger encampment. The homeless situation in the area has been contentious, with local officials attempting to evict members of the larger Tent City, home to approximately 70 people.
