Proposal to Place Advertisements on Baltimore Fire Trucks Advances

A Baltimore City Council committee has approved a measure that would allow advertisements on fire trucks to help support the department -- and potentially prevent fire companies' closures, reports The Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/LEJezT).

The newspaper details that firefighters have backed the bill and expressed hope that the revenue could prevent three of the city's 55 fire companies from being closed due to budget cuts.

The city will not know how much revenue could be raised until planned study is completed.

The newspaper details that the bill's fate before the full council is uncertain, but notes, that an aide of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Black said she does not support placing ads on trucks.

We do not believe fire trucks are an appropriate venue for this type of advertising," said mayoral spokesman Ryan O'Doherty.
