Mobile Firefighters Offer Tips After Fireplace Fire Spread to Home

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (AL) is sharing some tips after a fire in a fireplace spread to an attic and caused $20,000 in damage, reports Alabama.com. The fire had initially been started in the fireplace for warmth, but investigators determined it spread because there was a small gap between the fireplace and the interior wall. The following tips include: Be sure [your fireplace] is installed properly. Have the chimney inspected annually and cleaned if necessary, especially if it has not been used for some time.
