Off-Duty CA Firefighter Rescues Child from Apartment Fire

An off-duty firefighter rescued a toddler early Wednesday from a burning apartment where a woman was found dead in Murrieta, California. The Press-Enterprise reported ( that Jason Patterson, 36, carried a three-year-old boy to safety then went back in an attempt to knock down the fire with a fire extinguisher. The child would not have survived if it hadn't been for Patterson, who is a seasonal firefighter assigned to Cal Fire Station 14 in Norco.
