Fire Department of New York (FDNY) Firefighter Peter Demontreux, who was awarded the 2011 Ray Downey Courage and Valor Award for his daring rescue of two men from a burning brownstone, will be among 18 emergency rescue workers awarded the nation's highest award for valor in public safety.
Bloomberg reports (http://bloom.bg/YA4eMa) that Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder will present the award today in Washington, D.C. Created in 2001, the award has been given 78 times since then, including today's group of recipients.
Demontreux was previously honored with the James Gordon Bennett Medal, the highest honor in New York City for a member of the fire service.
