The State Firemen's & Fire Marshal's Association of Texas yesterday released revised firefighter and first responder line-of-duty death estimates in the huge explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas.
The fire organization said on its Web site (http://bit.ly/15mzhlw) that five West Fire Department firefighter died. One Dallas (TX) firefighter and four EMS responders also died, as well as one unknown. Eleven West firefighters are in the hospital.
According to the Associated Press (http://huff.to/ZC6e6C), the Dallas firefighter, Captain Kenny Harris, 52, was off duty when he decided to assist local firefighters battle the fertilizer plant fire.
The search and rescue effort continues after Wednesday night's horrific explosion. As CNN noted (http://bit.ly/17L8krj), many questions about the cause of the deadly blast remain, as well as exact totals of those killed and injured.
