AL Volunteer Firefighter, 71, Dies After Fire Response

A 71-year-old volunteer firefighter died after responding early Tuesday morning to a structure fire in Greene County, Alabama.

Springfield Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Stanley Martin, Jr. complained of shortness of breath after the fire was extinguished, according to a WBRC news report (http://bit.ly/11fJVu3). Martin served as an apparatus operator.

An ambulance was called, but Martin stopped breathing before it arrived on scene. He was transported by efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
