Vehicle Extrication: NY Firefighters Respond to Car Crash on Overpass

Article and photos by John Spaulding The Spencerport (NY) Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on New York State Route 531 at the overpass of Union Street in the town of Ogden. Arriving apparatus and chiefs found a single car-accident with entrapment and the car hanging over the abutment of about 20 feet. Many aspects of technical rescue were deployed, including securing the vehicle to the ground, using ropes to secure personnel, and vehicle extrication. Limited access also presented a problem on the divided highway overpass.
