Florida Battalion Chief and Fire Engineering Board Member Hollins Retires

Cedar Hammock (FL) Fire Department Battalion Chief Leigh Hollins, a Fire Engineering editorial board member, is retiring after 37 years on the job.

Thursday morning, an honor guard lowered the flag flying over Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue Station One as part of the retirement ceremony for Hollins, according to mysuncoast.com (http://bit.ly/1dyBgIi). During the brief retirement ceremony, Hollins was presented the American flag that flew over his station by his father, Edwin who is a retired fire chief from New Jersey.

Hollins played a large part in designing the department's fire training facility as well as getting the state of Florida to mark commercial, industrial, and multiunit residential structures that have lightweight roof or floor trusses with placards. Besides writing for Fire Engineering magazine and instructing at FDIC, Hollins also appeared in several Training Minutes video series.
