Structural Firefighting: Michigan Firefighters Battle Recycling Plant Fire

Story and photo by Dennis Walus On Tuesday May 27, 2014, at approximately 1245 hours, the Southfield (MI) Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire. The first-arriving engine reported smoke showing from a large recycling plant. All five Southfield stations were then requested. Firefighters stretched lines and preformed an interior attack on the building. Command then requested a second alarm to the scene for manpower. With companies operating inside the building and conditions not improving, command pulled all crews out of the building and set up defensive operations.
