Kentucky Firefighter Killed After Being Struck at Van Fire Scene

One firefighter was killed and another injured after they were struck while operating at the scene of a van fire on a highway in Kentucky.

WHAS11 reports (http://bit.ly/1sffMUm) that the Glendale Volunteer Fire Department was working a van fire on Interstate 65 south when one firefighters was hit and killed by a semi.

A second firefighter was seriously injured and airlifted to an area hospital.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Jonathan French, 25, when a semi tractor-trailer struck them and their fire apparatus while they were operating at the scene of a motor vehicle fire on Interstate 65. According to reports, Firefighter Lisa French, Jonathan's mother, was flown to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigation into the fatal incident continues by authorities.

It was the second firefighter fatality in as many days for the U.S. fire service, after a New Carlisls (IN) firefighter died Tuesday night in a building collapse.
