Worse yet, these training requirements have encroached on training that was historically spent on practical, hands-on skills. This loss of fun hands-on training leaves many volunteers disengaged. As a volunteer department of 300 members in 14 stations (500 square miles), the Boone County (MO) Fire Protection District understands this dilemma.
