Q. When did the term "fireproof building" fall into disfavor? Scroll down for the answer.
A. After the 1903 Chicago Iroquois Theater disaster and the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904, the NFPA formed a "Fireproof Construction Committee" to study fireproof construction. One of their recommendations was to abandon the use of the term fireproof and replace it with fire-resistive.
