Drill of the Week: Live Burn Exercise

Middle

Using an acquired structure to conduct live burn exercises according to NFPA 1403 is not an easy task. It requires careful, extensive planning. Depending on the extent of the exercise, you may have to coordinate not only multiple fire companies, but also work closely with the local police department and EMS agency.

This week's drill will walk you through the entire process, as well as provide a possible template for you to use for each evolution. Done correctly, you can use one acquired structure for multiple evolutions. The department that conducted this week's drill accomplished 20evolutions using only the house's second floor. On the second weekend, personnel conducted 12 additional drills using the first floor and the basement.
