Drill of the Week: Vehicle Stabilization

This week's drill covers vehicle stabilization. This is not always a rescue company task. Various fire department apparatus carry some form of stabilization equipment ranging from high-lift jacks to step chocks to wood cribbing.

Members participating in this drill must be able to identify and demonstrate the use of various pieces of equipment used to stabilize a vehicle.

Note that you should use a properly secured vehicle for this training, and refer to department and manufacturer SOGs for operations. During the drill, stress lifting and carrying techniques, use of correct PPE at all times, and scene safety and tool safety concerns during all evolutions
