Obituary for Hugh J. Caulfield
Hugh J. Caulfield passed away on November 9, 2006. He was the author of the best-selling Fire Engineering book Winning the Fire Service Leadership Game (1985). Caulfield was an assistant professor in the Fire Science Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City and served 23 years in the Fire Department of New York, where he retired with the rank of captain. In addition to serving as a line officer in some of the busiest engine and truck companies in the city, Caulfield was director of FDNY's promotion and career training program as well as curriculum coordinator of the line officers' development program. The City of New York awarded Hugh Caulfield the Leo Lowenstein award for administrative excellence in 1973 for his contribution to the promotion training program. Caulfield had degrees in business administration and science, as well as a master's degree in public administration. His articles about the fire service appeared regularly in Fire Engineering.
