Thanks to the kindness of numerous departments across the U.S., Germantown (OH) Fire Department firefighter Michael Manning, who is biking cross-country to raise money for the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, has been able to find shelter for his trip. To keep expenses down on the ride, Michael is personally purchasing everything (food, cycling gear, and so on) and is staying at local firehouses, meaning every dollar donated to goes to burn survivors. Michael is still working to secure donors and finalize his itinerary; if you can help, contact him via e-mail

Michael plans to begin his ride on May 9 and finish on June 22, pedaling 70 to 140 miles per day, excluding rest days, from Boston, Massachusetts, to San Jose, California. Stay tuned to Fire Engineering for photos and further updates from Michael's trip.
