To Tag or Not To Tag? That Is the Question
This edition of Burning Issues features interviews with two captains, one pro tags and one against tags-to a degree. The "pro" captain, Raul Angulo, believes that the tags are essential for knowing who is on the fireground. Mike Nasta believes that tags make a department overconfident in the system and at most, identify missing persons rather than track active locations.

Burning Issues: Ineffective Chiefs or "Egos Eat Brains"
One way to identify ineffective fire service managers is to identify their style: Are they leaders who enforce values or are they managers who enforce rules? Chief Lasky (Chief of the Lewisville (TX) Fire Department) believes that to be effective, you have to be good at both, and the scale needs to be tilted on the side of the leader rather than the manager.

Burning Issues: Weak Training + Weak Staffing = Disaster in Waiting
Weak staffing and weak training are two subjects that have been debated, derided, and "disgusted" for years. But the issue boils down to this: The tasks needed to be completed at a fire cannot be accomplished when only four or five people with bare-bones training answer a call. In most cases, limited funds have been blamed for this situation.
