On-Scene Report: Building Info

Oct 19, 2009

By Forest Reeder

An initial on-scene radio report contains vital information necessary for all responders to begin the process of managing the program. First arriving companies have the responsibility to transmit a clear and concise report of the structure, the conditions found, the actions being taken, and initial orders for responding units.

This process takes practice and a standard transmission “script” of things that must be reported helps put the initial radio report into a working game plan for the operation. After further size-up, additional report information can be transmitted, upgrading or reducing the alarm or to provide safety related information. This training session reviews the description of the structure portion of the initial on-scene radio report. Review local procedures for how this is accomplished within your department.
