Nov. 5--A Wednesday morning fire killed a Columbus man in a house off Lawyers Lane that had neither electricity nor gas.
Investigators have not determined what caused the fire that killed 51-year-old Alfred Henry of 2512 Eighth St., said Deputy Chief Tommy Streeter.
"However, carelessness with smoking materials can not be ruled out because he didn't have any electricity or gas to the house," he said.
Firefighters from Station No. 6 on Brown Avenue were called to the home about 6:35 a.m. and had the fire out in about 20 minutes, Streeter said. Henry, who lived alone, was found in a front bedroom, which appeared to be where the blaze started, Streeter said.
