Feb. 9--A 58-year-old man has been charged in connection with an October 2009 fire set at the entrance to the Dome Building downtown.
Daniel Maier was charged with arson Monday in connection with the Oct. 4 fire at the building, located at 736 Georgia Ave., said Bruce Garner, Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman.
At the time of the call, there was evidence of a fire around the entrance to the building, records show. The fire damage was minimal with no injuries reported, authorities said.
Mr. Garner said the fire was started with a "flammable liquid" but did not disclose what kind of liquid was used.
"It is an arson arrest, but the damage was quite minor and no one was hurt," he said.
Lt. Anthony Moore with the Fire Investigation Division, who charged Mr. Maier, said physical evidence led him to the suspect. Mr. Maier has denied setting the fire, officials said.
Mr. Maier already was in custody in the Hamilton County Jail on vandalism charges dating from Oct. 7, according to jail records.
