He arranged for daughter's beau to set car on fire
Pima County Superior Court Judge Richard Nichols sentenced a 58- year-old Tucson man to seven years of probation Friday for arranging to have his car set on fire, said Deputy Pima County Attorney Malena Acosta.
Roy Irvin Weeast must also pay $30,000 restitution to his bank and insurance company after being convicted last month of forgery, arson, fraudulent schemes and criminal damage.
Police found a 2006 Dodge Charger on fire Jan. 17, 2009 on South Craycroft Road near Los Reales Landfill. An investigation revealed it had been saturated with a flammable liquid and then set on fire, and police learned Weeast owed $25,000 on the car, but it was worth only $10,000.
When contacted by police, Anthony Lillie, 23, the boyfriend of Weeast's daughter, told police he set the car on fire after Weeast agreed to give him permission to marry his daughter, according to police.
Lillie pleaded guilty to attempted arson last month and was placed on three years' probation. He must also pay a $1,000 fine to the Arson Detection Reward fund.
