Rick Lasky, a 28-year veteran of the fire service, is chief of the Lewisville (TX) Fire Department. He began his career as a firefighter in the suburbs on the southwest side of Chicago. He received the 1996 International Society of Fire Service Instructors "Innovator of the Year" award for his part in developing the "Saving Our Own" program. He served as the co-lead instructor for the H.O.T. Firefighter Survival program at FDIC for more than 10 years, is an editorial advisory board member of Fire Engineering, and is a member of the FDIC advisory board. He is the author of the "Pride and Ownership--A Firefighter's Love of the Job" leadership series, published in Fire Engineering, and the book of the same name.
Cheryl Horvath is a division chief, assigned to training, for the Northwest Fire District in Tucson, AZ. She has been in the fire service since 1992. Horvath is the president of the board of trustees for the International Association of Women in Fire & Emergency Services.

Sean DeCrane is a 19-year veteran of the Cleveland (OH) Fire Department and is currently a Battalion Chief assigned to suppression duties. He has published articles in Fire Engineering and has presented at FDIC. He is a certified State of Ohio Life Safety Inspector and has taught numerous recruitment classes and is an adjunct instructor for the Cleveland Fire Academy. He is a member of the Underwriters Laboratories Fire Council, sits on the International Code Council (ICC) Fire Code Development Committee for two cycles, and is the strategy leader for the Vision 20/20: National Fire Loss Prevention Agenda's Strategy 5 initiative. He represents the International Association of Fire Fighters to the ICC Code Process.
Jack J. Murphy is a 29-year veteran of the fire service. He is the Principle of JJM & Associates, LLC., and is the retired fire marshal and former deputy chief of the Leonia (NJ) Fire Department. He is a certified State of New Jersey Fire Official/Fire Inspector and has been involved with codes for over 25 years. Jack served for two and a half years on the New York City Model ICC Building and Fire Codes Program. He is the NJ State Deputy Fire Coordinator (Bergen Region), the Vice-Chairman of the Fire Safety Directors Association (New York City), and serves on the National Fire Protection Association committees for High-Rise Building Safety and Pre-Incident Planning. He is an editorial advisory board member of Fire Engineering magazine.
