Trunk Tunneling

Thu, 2 Sep 2010|

Dave Dalrymple and his crew demonstrate how to extricate patients by proceeding through the trunk and into the front of the vehicle. Sponsored by Holmatro.

Rescuers welcome to fire engineering training -- -- on indeed apple. In this segment we're gonna talk about trump tunneling. Now the first thing that comes to mind when you hear -- tunneling for vehicle education. Is the vehicles. Underwrote a larger vehicle sale -- box -- -- tractor trailer. -- also take into consideration to today what happens if you tools can't cut or sever. The roof posts and you have no access to the sides of the vehicle or the sides -- so damaged. You can't get the sides open either. Think about the kind of construction materials that go -- to vehicles today. So one of the things that even though it might the sound farfetched it's -- more more reality is maybe we need to displace. The back of the vehicle in some way shape or form and one of the ways to do that is to tunnel through with the -- to get -- occupants in the front. Now in order to do this we have to go vote we have to force the trunk. When the -- what's up. We either cut it displaces and some why we cut the package -- get rid of that we get rid of the seat back after that. And then the sea bottom. Will follow that will follow that. Get that out of the way and the -- would be to the front seats. To -- our patients are to get them out. So now let's watch this evolution as we walk through it and a crew walked through and shows you how to do it step by step. Rescuers -- is gonna come in start -- -- evolution bursts are gonna make. The purchase point then they're gonna force the trunk. Now wants the trunk is open. They're gonna comment -- and expect to see if there's any type debris any type of materials or anything like that that needs to be moved out. Prior to start a truck following -- pollution. -- -- actually cut the trunk off the vehicle. Rescuers now we've taken the -- away from the vehicle. The next part of the vehicle we need to view our strong point evolution as we need to remove the package -- The crew is gonna make a relief cut on each side of the package deck with a hydraulic tool. Then they're gonna finish the cut sport with a reciprocating -- and then across. -- -- to get it out of the vehicle. A. We're seeing the package shelf being removed. The crew here to cut through the torsion bar that changes the trunk up and down. One of the other options you can do -- that torsion bar. It's either popping or push it out of the way I would hear how again a full -- school war. Small -- told to get in there just push it out of the way it'll pop out released. -- rescuers now we've removed the package help -- is gonna come in and inspect the rear seat back. The receipt back easily held at the bottom by either bolt -- bracket -- have metal something fairly simple. The crew is gonna do two different -- here to show you two different options. On the driver side it's a combination school and actually spread the seat back. Off of the tap. Yeah. Now rescuers on the passenger side we're gonna take them. The power hydraulic Connor. Power it actually cut through the tap. Again this is two different options to show that we can use a variety of different schools in this instance. Now the crew has finished removing those -- the seat back in here moved from the vehicle. We have the option of either leaving the scene bottom in place for the rear seat. Or taking it out give us some extra room. -- rescuers wrap up this evolution we're gonna this -- the patient at this point. The cruise gonna come in they're -- all the drivers -- down to extricate the patient. And -- belongs behind board. Not as you can see once the board goes -- Even with the -- on the vehicle there's a tremendous amount of space shot very little difficulty removing patients -- the vehicles. Now again remember trump telling can be used for vehicle and ran under -- -- -- situation but also. They were in a situation where the vehicle. Proof posts where you can't sever with the tools and -- the -- out they would try tunneling -- makes space for your patience. Now watch how we did the -- -- -- step by step. Couple things to remember as we do this though always with any kind of tool evolution. Need to put a hard barrier between your patient and interior -- -- some sort of heart protection. Wilson wanna cover up sharp edges as we work because we don't -- -- be injured nor do we want it into the patient as they're coming out being decent angle. -- things remember what trump tunneling as well. Hybrids and alternative fuel vehicles we have to always be careful of what's in the trunk of these vehicles specifically. The Honda Civic hybrid. Honda Accord hybrid. And the -- you Ford Fusion hybrid and Mercury Milan hybrid. Those vehicles the high voltage battery actually lives in this rear seat back itself. So we don't want tunnel through that trunk area that would be bad cut through the high voltage battery. I'd like to think we'll watch I don't like to thank you. For watching training and its findings saved apple and be safe.
