And -- to users and called them fighting the fires are now peel and stick with the lives of emergency response personnel at risk. Living here does too because diesel exhaust gets deposited inside this fire house numerous times today. Diesel exhaust contain soot particles and benzene related cash -- compounds such as -- nuclear aromatic hydrocarbons or. Firefighters read them and every time they respond to a call. Every time the heat can sleep here. And chances are they take it home on their clothes at the end of every work day. These cancer causing agents put your personnel at risk for lung prostate and testicular cancer as well as emphysema asthma. Bronchitis and heart disease. According to the NFPA standards it's your job to protect them from these deadly exhaust emissions put their health and safety first and be -- complete code compliance with the no smoke exhaust removal system for more diesel. An apparatus mounted direct source capture system that works automatically and also meets and exceeds OSHA. My -- an NFPA mandated standards for firehouse air quality. If I was too did do an analogy. Like -- -- I've been in the fire service for a few years. Several years ago back in their 1970s. The fire service introduced. A a life saving. Safety device. That was at first it was kind of reluctant for firefighters to use it but we use it every day now it's called the self contained breathing apparatus. That is my life blood when I go into a fire I know I'm being protected. So -- was to use an analogy I would say that the no smoke would be like the SE VA for the fire engine. And no smoke is going to. Filter out all those harmful products at the firefighters been exposed to and now let him worry. Clean air the same way that I've -- that clean air when I go into a fire I can have that -- same clean air. Any time I'm around the fire engine it's difficult for me to put a price. On the health of a firefighter. Because as we know we already experiencing or are facing so many different dangers. We don't need to have those dated -- exposures. Our firefighters don't need to be exposed to those -- -- exposures. That we can prevent or at least limit. No smoke completely. Eliminates a -- you don't even thinking about are far fires being subjected to that because it is so we effective. And insisted to me it's priceless you can't put a price on on firefighter health. The no smoke exhaust removal system consists of an electronic control module. A divert a unit and a ceramic diesel particulate filter developed by Corning. Which can be installed on all your diesel fire and emergency response vehicles. When seconds matter no smoke is ready as soon as the driver turns on the end. -- -- electronic control module automatically engages the diverted unit which directs the diesel exhaust from the vehicle's exhaust system. He into the no smoke system. -- the diesel particulates are trapped in the ceramic filter. For up to 99 seconds enough time for the vehicle to -- the -- Filtered so -- -- released into the air eliminating all risk of diesel soot inhalation and contamination. No smoke also kicks into action when the driver puts the vehicle in reverse in backs into the day. In addition a manual override switch allows the driver to activate the no smoke system as needed. Offering added protection during -- checks in the fire house. Emergency room stops on -- pump operations and at community events. We respond a lot of times to vehicle accidents vehicle expectations. So any time that we are in a position where. Either our firefighters. Or the public are gonna be. Exposed to. Diesel exhaust we can just put the the -- will engage in manually and -- we are totally protected. It's it's just -- it's an additional feature that just helps sell the product. You can't take that ventilation system system from the fire station to the fire ground. And that's just something that we also. Oh really felt strongly about. The main reason that sold me on the no smoke system is is is purely. For the reason. That you don't have to have a firefighter down at the level of that exhaust. In those particulates coming out of that that exhaust. It kind of defeats the purpose. Of having a a diesel exhaust system when your. When your literally. Exposing that person to those particulates and that those toxic fumes each and every time you -- that station it just doesn't make sense with the word he saw no smoke. Press of the button or in the in the case of back in station simply put in reverse your home free. The system ceramic filter provides you with at least thirty hours of operation or more depending on the vehicle. When it nears capacity of flashing light in the control panel lets you know that it's time to call war diesel for a replacement. A new filter will arrive at your doorstep within days. Switching out the filters only takes a few minutes and requires no special tools when you're done no smokes electronic control panel resets itself. It's of the system is ready to go when you are. Then simply send -- used filtered to -- diesel. Our mechanics have been in service by the word no smoke mechanic. So they know exactly what to do had a change -- the filter how to get it exchanged. With the corporate office in New York. And it's about a half hour job and you're back on the road again and that's the beauty of this. When you compare the no smoking soft -- ration system to the common alternatives including a stationary hanging -- exhaust system. There's no doubt that no smoke is the most practical and wise investment. No smoke is automatic eliminating the need for manual connections the risk of human error and the chance of exposure to toxic diesel exhaust. No smoke is cleaner because it uses direct source capture containing the diesel exhaust instead of re directing or re circulating it to another area. No smoke is apparatus mounted for freedom of movement from -- today or station to station eliminating the need for costly building renovations. Be honest with you all the systems. Do a good thing but. Some of the systems require a lot more input from the user than others. I was very concerned about. The fact that you had a fire truck that had the potential to be moved lost someone was in the vicinity of the rear wheels are in the vicinity of the front wheels trying to a couple of those. I was also concerned about the fact that on. More than one occasion we something hadn't released on -- -- -- -- on air host and we wound up pulling something off the ceiling now is a concern of mine also. So we looked at the no smoke. Very seriously because of its ease of use its. Firefighters can have a very complicated task but why throw another another complex -- in there when you don't have to. After 32 years in the service I know how dangerous the job is I just didn't want to add any other danger to and I wanted to make. Do something positive and make it effortless and that's what the notional provided to us it was. And effortless way to eliminate particulate. Or diesels expert technicians can retrofit -- no smoke system on your existing vehicles or install -- on new ones at the truck builders location before you take delivery. And if your system ever need service our technicians do the work and are just a phone call away. Clearly no smoke which meets and exceeds OSHA nine -- an NFPA codes is the best way to ensure that -- in compliance. I've found the experience. With. Ward as a company as well as as a particular. Device that we've installed on our apparatus. To have been a real pleasure. On it is increased our safety level. Tremendously within the fire station. The company has been extremely responsive. As we. Purchased the equipment as we asked for advice in purchasing the equipment. As they came to our station to install. The equipment -- minimal down time for our apparatus. And of course on an ongoing basis if we have any questions if we have any problems if there's any technical. Information that we had that our mechanics need. Ward has been very very responsive to us for those needs. The maintenance system this is exceptional. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Over the last ten years that I can think of -- and I called the company and they were Johnny on the spot -- parts. -- -- -- -- The mechanic was there we'll put them on and take your business right away. At war diesel our health and safety mission extends to the outdoors to to ensure that the no smoke system is -- -- -- can be. We regenerate your use filters through the -- extraction treatment and disposal of the diesel particulates they contain and then return them to service grew it is him. We also offer no smoke 2007. And beyond and exciting new product improvement and enhancement. The new high performance substrate with proprietary wash code removes -- matter on 2007 model engines. 2007 model and -- -- -- missions for the environment. No smoke 2007 provides the cleaner you need in the firehouse within the enclosed structure for an important health and safety upgrade. Around the world no smoke is helping fire departments of all sizes put the health and safety of their personnel first you -- department should be next. Our department is roughly. 550 firefighters. We have 23 engine companies a truck companies. All of those apparatuses. Are fit. With no smokes I wouldn't hesitate wouldn't hesitate for an instant and recommending -- No smoke. In South San Francisco we have eight systems and in our volunteer department for will -- volunteer fire department we have five. We're very very pleased and we see -- converting all of our apparatus in the near future to the ward in and totally eliminating. Each and every hanging clothes in in the remainder -- -- house's. Call war diesel today for a quote on the no smoke exhaust system and no smoke 2007. And beyond. It's the least you can do for all that they do. He knew what war diesel customers have to say about their decision to protect your person now with a no smoke exhaust system a good friend of mine who sits on as a board member for a volunteer -- -- department of where I live in Sonoma County California. Who was a battalion chief at the time for Novato fire district. Told me that -- -- take a look at what our department has done we found a great company. New York called the ward. Diesel. No smoke system. In its integrated right on to the the vehicle apparatus. There's no hoses no exhaust fans. Maintenance is virtually. Nil compared to the to the -- system. So basically. We talk to the mechanics at the Nevada fire district. They are they were had nothing but positive feedback for us when we made that visit. It was enough to convince us. That this is something that we need to it is certainly look into in planning out our new fire station facility. Couple that with the fact that we did not want any unsightly hoses in this particular building I have four drive through days that I designed for this. New facility. All approximately seventy feet long. Which would -- -- rail system to go along with those hoses quite costly. And then not to mention the maintenance factor that goes along with cleaning those -- For the few times that that -- does break off and and fails to dis engaged upon leaving me the fire station. And that's happened to -- a few times. In that the repair bills use the 750. Or 800 dollars or even more expensive it is to put that system back together. So in the interest of eliminating those possibilities. That was certainly a factor in deciding go toward -- -- smoke it just made so much more sense to have. The system attached to the track so that it goes -- the truck goes. If you're covering in a station you don't have to worry about you know being compatible with with existing host system in that particular station. Simply press the button. Or. If it's a not a drive -- station -- it reversed I would say they capital investment. For the -- no smoke. Stacked up against the -- system. In our particular case we use -- -- -- system. I would say we have. A significant savings by going with the -- no smoke. I did have to. Have that. Projected out in it was significantly thousands upon thousands of dollars cheaper to go with the -- -- smoke as opposed to those system. I would say that with the as far as keeping the the fire house clean. In the host system will only act so far as soon as that that -- hits the limit on that rail system. It disconnect and you still are getting some particulate. Matter into this through the apparatus bay itself -- into the to the living areas that. That we all share for 48 hours in our case. At a time when we come to work as far as flexibility and freedom for the apparatus definitely. The -- smoke has the advantage over the -- simply because. When you exit the fire station -- -- in the host system behind. Whereas -- with the no smoke system you're literally bringing that system with you wherever that truck goes. Be it. To cover in a station that's 25 miles away. We simply put it in reverse. The system kicks in and we back into the station we're covering or obviously if it's a drive -- station we hit the button on the dash and activate the system. Definitely has advantages over this the host system. -- -- smoke on -- feature is a great built in feature. We do have it on our ambulances now and when we pull up to our local. Emergency room. The vehicle exhaust is on the same side -- of where it parks right in the entrance to the emergency room. The paramedic and jump out hit the switch and simply put it into. It's activated modes so we're not filling up a whole room. -- -- -- -- The beauty of the war diesel no smoke system is that it can be installed on a piece of apparatus today. And next year when an apparatus goes out of service it can be disassembled. And reassembled on the brand new peace that comes in to replace it. The age of the apparatus does not matter with the word no smoke it can be installed on either -- fire engine fire truck. Or an ambulance -- -- pickup truck as long as it has a diesel engine in the -- no smoke is applicable. I'm -- to say that the war no smoke diesel system worked so well for South San Francisco -- department that. As a member of the board of directors for the will -- volunteer for our department of Sonoma County California. We also decided to put in for the -- no smoke and we're successful in obtaining a grant from the assistance to firefighter grant through FEMA. So we're gonna be installing five systems in our volunteer department and that's how highly I think of this product and I would recommend the warden -- -- to anyone out there in the fire service. This is the wave of the future. To eliminate the -- systems to protect our firefighters which comes first and foremost in our book. We looked at the word useful filter system we looked at space underneath the apparatus and determine that there's more than enough room to accommodate the product. And we didn't have things that caller firefighters would bow their heads on or. We have. Three feet of room between apparatus as you're walking down or -- floor. And if you have a -- hanging down there imagine the emergency call them and and your fighting with those everybody's trying to get through there -- Assigned seats and and respond. It was this very cumbersome we talked few other. Agencies and we looked at the heating system in the vacuum system and we we. Talk about problems that they had what they can identify. And I came up everything from hoses melting 300 yards of wire down -- down the street. And firefighters being firefighters. Departments being departments that we are we felt that the they're really both systems wouldn't really work for us allegedly -- called today. Not a lot but most companies standards but first -- -- called today is is a significant number or. -- -- four calls going out shopping or going and junior commercial inspection going on doing. Driver training. Maintenance or any kind of -- every time you start the apparatus in that confines -- what we were doing was we were adding. Carcinogens that the black smoke that -- foot. Not only -- -- world equivalent to the clothing that would point where -- two. Into controlled environment or even movement controlled environment. And then you're putting and then you're -- you can feel it getting on your skin and we already know the firefighters have a higher level. Higher risk level for -- lung cancer. And heart attacks -- what we've done by by a adding that the -- -- -- system. -- that's allowed us to put our firefighters and an atmosphere. That is much safer. Ensuring -- that he what I really like about it is fully automated I don't have to worry about the firefighter -- the apparatus in the near. -- -- the system. Or. Forgetting to put it on her -- engage -- before we back into the system. When we initially start up or fire apparatus that automatically engages and we've we have our stuff for 45 seconds so we can easily clear. The apparatus Truman actually via the first stop -- before it before the vote I've talked to other fire departments that have. Different types of vacuum systems or -- -- to the exhaust pipe. The running into a couple of different problems that I know our firefighters will run into. And that's haven't. 300 yard wire hanging out your fire station with the cops still attached -- -- your thoughts -- the other problem that I'd seen with other departments is. They are not able to. -- seldom do they stop and -- the -- on the exit exhaust pipe and then back the apparatus than most of them back in the apparatus and then -- applies. We've been able to eliminate. All of the all of the by having an automatic system we've been able to eliminate all of the problems that. Urn filled with that I've been the apple -- -- opera apparatus officer for eight years for our department. I'm I have very particular about customer service like talking to people don't care much for. We'll voice mail and I'll get back parties. Customer services. And one of them this company and I've dealt -- -- over the last twelve years one from initial contact. To. I have a problem or it's that time of the year for filters servicemen and I can't think of any companies that it dealt with on a regular basis. Where I've had customer service like I've had from from -- diesels more than a small system if we have any problem with. With any -- -- yeah mechanical parts. Which is only happen to -- once actually over fifteen years twelve years that I can think. It is we call. We described the problems they ship the -- to a -- -- -- mechanic who put it on or they have a traveling mechanic in the area they'll stop -- and put forth I'm dealing with a company that is forthright this year very truthful. It's a pleasure to do business with with people that stand by their product. The it's one of them one of nice things about I administrative apparatus equipment as -- -- earlier. And it's I know assume they make the phone call that the customer service is going to be second thing and know that the product delivers what -- -- -- gonna deliver. And and I would like other vendors and other pieces of equipment viewed that way it's. This a great experience to deal with people like that. And equipment. The nice thing about dealing with this company and dealing with -- company phone number years. -- is we've had several phone calls from New Jersey to California. -- Texas to Wyoming. Inquiry about the product. And American life -- -- Right now. I've recommended the product I've given the high points on and I've given them only low point that I found with the product. And I'm very truthful with they need to make their own decision. No smoke is that is this something that's automatic. When you start up the fire engine it automatically engages for the firefighters protected. When you back into the station you put the vehicle in reverse -- automatically engage so the firefighter there is protected as well. If you were -- you think about putting in the ventilation systems that are in place ventilation systems one -- your firefighters is going to have to. Take the responsibility. Of connecting now -- or that device that attaches to the Indian. And just that. Even that little bit there -- being exposed to that that the harmful carcinogens. And we didn't want that we wanted something that was gonna work. From -- from starting the engine to stopping the engine and -- -- was the only product out there that was available to -- that and my experience of being involved with the health and safety is I'm very aware of what benzene does. As far as firefighters help and how it's been linked to every -- -- cancer that that is is an existence. And so that's kind of what I focused on -- benzene along with a lot of the other combustion by products. And -- it was fully confident that that no smoke would minimize or almost exclude. That from our firefighters -- from being exposed to that product of combustion actually work in a fire station that's -- back in station. And we have since we have retrofitted or -- our apparatus. With no smoke. It's completely different atmosphere I have a hyper sensitivity. To diesel exhaust. And it used to be that when we would back into the station I would get just a little bit of that exhaust. And I would get an immediate headache. With the no smoke I have not experienced any problems or any any -- at all. One of the added benefits of having award -- -- If you go to any fire station. In in Sacramento with the exception number two new stations you'll see -- turnouts. Placed on the wall hung on the wall around the exterior of apparatus floor. No smoke. Now prevents those -- from being contaminated. -- diesel exhaust. For years -- firefighters would put those turnouts on and now they're having that contamination not only are -- reading it. But they are are having a problem with those chemicals being absorbed through the skin. -- -- has eliminated that. It's definitely a product that is gonna change the future for four firefighters. And how they're being exposed to diesel exhaust. I would rate -- customer service as first rate. When we first decided to go ahead and have the installation done -- fire operas they -- on a team that assisted us in that process. That team was just that they were awesome. Any problems that we encountered they were able to adapt. Are exhaust systems without any problems. The we're just very supportive. -- in that whole process. There's a lot of different mechanical hearts to. To the in station's systems where with the with the no smoking now on and on the engine. You don't have to think about it automatically comes on in your firefighters are protected right and insisted it. It's amazing. How complicated. We make things sometimes and yet they're so simple. -- -- other things -- that we noticed is that with the in station's systems. One of your firefighter when -- personnel actually has to physically. -- that to the apparatus. Now you're risking that firefighter being exposed to -- -- -- -- you're risking the chance of him slipping and falling in becoming injured. Why for what reason you -- you'll have the same benefit even a better benefit by -- In the knows -- the nice thing to. At least my experience with this before I retired who has. They come out and they install -- they don't depend on someone else to install -- so. Not only of buying a product you're Brian in the service of the product in your -- you're buying a proper installation instead of having a different -- -- the installation and then. The one thing we discovered to there's you know they told us that the -- -- between so often we found out that they lasted longer than they told us so. There were even there were very honest about everything we dealt with the. We are two station department made up actually of two cities and for the last. -- and a half now we've had five of our pieces of diesel apparatus equipped with with a no smokes I think that the investment. That we made is certainly substantial. From from a dollars and cents standpoint but it's also a substantial investment in the health of our people. Of course we we know that the studies have shown today that. -- smoke. Produced the exhaust produced by the diesel engines has been shown to be carcinogenic. Why expose our people to that on not only the people that are working on the apparatus floor but of course every time a fire engine pulls in or out of the station. There's a certain amount of infiltration -- gets into our living area in our administrative area. So. -- I can't even start to put a price on the value of preventing something like that someone coming down with -- with it would be cancer as a result of that exposure. We also don't have to worry about one of the things that that people may or may not considered to be a safety issue and that is. On the having to get off the apparatus make the physical connection. To the apparatus and always be concerned that that person is clear. Of the apparatus before you start to back the thing out again back that thing into the station rather. The main factor that caused us to buy this was again the convenience. Not having any. In the auxiliary equipment that has to be hooked up to -- to the fire engine. Safety came number one and that the safety being. Exposure that our people -- we knew that we had to do something because we had. Smoke we had diesel exhaust fumes on the apparatus for getting into our fire station into the living in administrative areas. Yeah and we did not have the room to employ -- the other collection type devices that use hoses. That hook up to the apparatus so that was really what what what enables us to do that the blessing that team down then allowed us to do this. Was actually. One of the AFG grants. That's FEMA was offering and we -- able to get this paid for through a FEMA grant which. Allowed us to do and a lot more quickly then that we would have been able to do it otherwise the very best feature. That I see. As a benefit of installing this system is the elimination. Of the carcinogenic. Material that accompanies diesel smoke second. Most advantageous thing is the opportunity. To have a system that eliminates this -- the carcinogens. And have -- operating independently. Free of any. Equipment that has to be hooked up to the apparatus. It allows the streaming totally flexible in in my particular situation. In our communities. Dad is critical because of the -- of our fires station. If some -- asked me whether it was a good investment I would I would give it a hearty endorsement.
