As we're all aware. It in the command system one national incident management system. It's a good tool for us to organized. An incident. Divide up the personnel. And apparatus. To take care of the incident had to provide a safe. And accountable environment. -- firefighters to work and components of the incident command system. That should be thought out and used. Would be. -- -- Clear decisions. But -- decisions. When you see something that's got to be done decide on how to take care of it and decide on how to get it done. It's. Every incident we respond to has three. -- incident priorities. But -- a priority. Is life safety. Always. That life safety is divided up into two component. I was being the rescuer or respond up. And the person that were coming to that incident for. If we are not safe there not going to be. The next priority. Would be incidents stabilization. Always. Through that. You develop your strategy. And your tactics. In which to take care the answer. The third component is lastly. Property conservation. Let's remember up. Can't could -- the property you can't take care of what's left if you don't have the proper tactics and strategy. -- -- -- -- And always. A priority is -- -- Another area that you need to remember that's important with incident command. Is to find responsibilities. Specifically. Chain of command. Someone has to be in charge even in a unified command situation. -- you're bringing in multiple agencies someone has to be in charge of the -- and lastly there's accountability. -- by accountability. We have to know what resources are being used how many people -- on those resources and who was -- the incidence. The end result is that we know who's -- We know what we're gonna do to take care of the incident how we're gonna take care of the incident and will go to effectively take care of the the best part about the incident command system. It's it's adaptable. To any type of incident that you go to. It can be used in the smallest incident can be used on a large multi jurisdictional incident. Example of this would be. A small -- -- -- going to any type a single your response. You can use incident command. When you respond to a large fire multiple arms. Outside -- that goes from many jurisdictions. You can incorporate this into the unified command system we have multiple agencies it works well. The key to that is started early when the first unit arrives. You establish command you build on from there. Each of us must always remember up. That there are basic components. To the -- yes system. One of them would be. As we mentioned before up to assess the incident priorities remember up. What those. We mentioned life safety. Incidents stabilization. And property conservation. The next -- to remember up to determine the pro appropriate use. Of strategy. And tactics. Yeah. Yeah. -- Yeah yeah. And -- break that down further it's important to remember up. The strategy. It's the thought. The tactic. Is the dual. For years we've always heard tactics and strategy. You wanna be careful you don't put the cart before the -- In other words go back to. The thought. And then the action you will be safer. -- third component. Is to remember to -- -- personnel. Who take care of the tactical objectives. In other words when you to establish command. You want -- what -- bush -- tactics are. An example being want to apply. Vertical or horizontal violation. Searching rescue. Wait a -- send these people what are they going to don't. The fourth item is to maintain communications. Once you set up incident command. And you have your sectors and operation. And -- tactic of being dealt with. Communicate. With the sector commander. Insure. That the strategy. And the tactics. Are being accomplished. Are progressing. And as always make sure that everybody operating at the scene is safe and accounted -- The fifth. Is to manage your infinite resource. Pretty easy on a small scale incident. When you get into the larger incidents and you start bringing in a lot of fire apparatus. You have to have a -- ready for that vehicle and its crew we have to have a staging area so that you can utilized the cruel only. Very important. And the sixth is to ensure. Safety and accountability. By that I mean that when you have established incident command on a small scale you're gonna know who they -- Write it down because dizzy and having gets larger you're gonna wanna know where these people are you gonna want to track them. As -- -- larger resigned today you're going to also -- import the -- -- responders. Coming in. Find out who they are. Get a number so that if an accountability has to be done because you have something go wrong at the incidence. You know where these people locked and you can account for. Number seven. Is to provide -- help -- command. A lot of the incidents that we're seeing now. Bring in multiple agencies. At any rate in a small community. When you respond you will have fire police maybe third service EMS maybe your DPW. You want to bring those people into the unified command. Referred to -- someone of brain trust. Not everybody can think of everything but to -- the incident can be mitigated in a safe and easy manner. And in closing. Remember. Always use incident command. Accountability. Incorporated into your training programs. If you train -- that. You'll use it in both incidents that are small and large. And it'll work for your department.
