And next year when an apparatus goes out of service it can be disassembled. And reassembled on the brand new peace that comes in to replace it. Not a lot but most companies standards but first -- -- called today is is a significant number or. -- -- four calls going out shopping or going and junior commercial inspection going on doing. Driver training. Maintenance or any kind of -- every time you start the apparatus in that confines -- what we were doing was we were adding. -- -- the view that the black smoke that -- foot. Not only in tour world equivalent to the clothing that would point where -- -- Into controlled environment or even -- controlled environment. And then you're putting and -- -- you you can feel it getting on your skin and we already know the firefighters have a higher level. Higher risk level for -- lung cancer. And heart attacks -- what we've done by by a adding that the -- -- -- system. -- that's allowed us to put our firefighters and an atmosphere. That is much safer. Ensuring -- that he what I really like about it is fully automated I don't have to worry about the firefighter -- the apparatus in the near. -- -- the system. Or. Forgetting to put it on her -- engage -- before we back into the system. When we initially start up or fire apparatus and automatically engages and we've we have our stuff for 45 seconds so we can easily clear. The apparatus Truman actually via the first stop -- before it before the vote I've talked to other fire departments that have. Different types of vacuum systems or test goes to the exhaust pipe. The running into a couple of different problems that I know our firefighters will -- into. And that's haven't. 300 yard wire hanging out your fire station with the -- still attached -- -- your thoughts -- the other problem that I'd seen with other departments is. They are not able to. -- seldom do they stop and -- the -- on the exit exhaust pipe and then back the apparatus than most of them back in the apparatus and then -- applies. We've been able to eliminate. All of the all of the by having an automatic system we've been able to eliminate all of the problems that. Urn filled with that I've been the apple -- -- opera apparatus officer for eight years for our department. I'm I have very particular about customer service like talking to people don't care much for. -- voice mail and I'll get back parties. Customer services. And one of -- -- companies I've dealt with. In over the last twelve years one from initial contact. To. I have a problem or it's that time of the year for filters servicemen and I can't think of any companies that it dealt with on a regular basis. Where I've had customer service like I've had -- from good diesels more than a small system if we have any problem with. With any -- the -- mechanical parts. Which is only happen to -- once actually over fifteen years twelve years that I can think. It is we call. We described the problems they ship the -- to -- -- -- -- mechanic who put it on or they have a traveling mechanic in the area they'll -- line put forth I'm dealing with a company that is forthright this year very truthful. It's a pleasure to do business with with people that stand by their product. The it's one of them one of nice things about I administrative apparatus equipment as -- -- earlier. And it's I know assume they make the phone call that the customer service is going to be second thing and know that the product delivers what -- -- -- gonna deliver. And and I would like other vendors and other pieces of equipment viewed that way it's. This a great experience to deal with people like that. And equipment. The nice thing about dealing with this company and dealing with -- company phone number years. -- is we've had several phone calls from New Jersey to California. -- Texas to Wyoming. Inquiry about the product. And American life -- -- Right now. I've recommended the product I've given the high points on and I've given them only low point that I found with the product. And I'm very truthful with they need to make their own decision. No smoke is that is this something that's automatic. When you start up the fire engine it automatically engages for the firefighters protected. When you back into the station you put the vehicle in reverse -- automatically engage so the firefighter there is protected as well. If you were -- you think about putting in the ventilation systems that are in place ventilation systems want to -- firefighters is going to have to. Take the responsibility. Of connecting now -- or that device that attaches to the -- And just that. Even that little bit there -- being exposed to that that the harmful carcinogens. And we didn't want that we wanted something that was gonna work. From that from starting the engine to stopping the engine and -- -- was the only product out there that was available to -- that and my experience of being involved with the health and safety is I'm very aware of what benzene does. As far as firefighters help and how it's been linked to every -- -- cancer that that is is an existence. And so that's -- what I focused on benzene along with a lot of the other combustion by products. And -- it was fully confident that that no smoke would minimize or almost exclude. That from our firefighters -- from being exposed to that product of combustion actually work in a fire station that's -- back in station. And we have since we have retrofitted or fitted our apparatus. With no smoke. It's completely different atmosphere I have a hyper sensitivity. To diesel exhaust. And it used to be that when we would back into the station I would get just a little bit of that exhaust. And I would get an immediate headache. With the no smoke I have not experienced any problems or any any -- at all. One of the added benefits of having award -- -- If you go to any fire station. In in Sacramento with the exception number two new stations you'll see -- turnouts. Placed on the wall hung on the wall around the exterior of apparatus floor. No smoke. Now prevents those turnarounds from being contaminated. -- diesel exhaust. For years -- firefighters would put those turnouts on and now they're having that contamination not only are -- reading it. But they are are having a problem with those chemicals being absorbed through the skin. -- -- has eliminated that. It's definitely a product that is gonna change the future for four firefighters. And how they're being exposed to diesel exhaust. I would rate -- customer service as first rate. When we first decided to go ahead and have the installation done -- fire operas they sent on a team that assisted us in that process. That team was just that they were awesome. Any problems that we encountered they were able to adapt. Are exhaust systems without any problems. The we're just very supportive. -- in that whole process. There's a lot of different mechanical parts to. To the in station's systems where with the with the no smoking now on and on the engine. You don't have to think about it automatically comes on in your firefighters are protected right and insisted it. It's amazing. How complicated. We make things sometimes and yet they're so simple. -- -- other things -- that we noticed is that with the in station's systems. One of your firefighter when -- personnel actually has to physically. -- that to the apparatus. Now you're risking that firefighter being exposed to -- -- you're risking the chance of him slipping and falling in becoming injured. Why for what reason you kid you'll have the same benefit even a better benefit by -- In the -- but the nice thing to. At least my experience with this before I retired who has. They come out and they install -- they don't depend on someone else to install -- so. Not only of buying a product you're Brian in the service of the product in your -- you're buying a proper installation instead of having a different -- -- the installation and then. The one thing we discovered to there's you know they told us that the -- had between so often we found out that they lasted longer than they told us so. There were even there were very honest about everything we dealt with it. We are two station department made up actually of two cities and for the last. -- and a half now we've had five of our pieces of diesel apparatus equipped with the with the no smokes I think that the investments. That we've made is certainly substantial. From from a dollars and cents standpoint but it's also a substantial investment in the health of our people. Of course we we know that the studies have shown today that. -- smoke. Produced the exhaust produced by the diesel engines has been shown to be carcinogenic. Why expose our people to that on not only the people that are working on the apparatus floor but of course every time a fire engine pulls in or out of the station. There's a certain amount of infiltration -- gets into our living area in our administrative area. So. -- I can't even start to put a price on the value of preventing something like that someone coming down with the with it would be cancer as a result of that exposure. We also don't have to worry about one of the things that that people may or may not considered to be a safety issue and that is. On the having to get off the apparatus make the physical connection. To the apparatus and always be concerned that that person is clear. Of the apparatus before you start to back the thing out again back that thing into the station rather. The main factor that caused us to buy this was again the convenience. Not having any. In the auxiliary equipment that has to be hooked up to -- to the fire engine. Safety came number one and that the safety being. This exposure that our people -- we knew that we had to do something because we had. Smoke we had diesel exhaust fumes on the apparatus for getting into our fire station into the living in administrative areas. Yeah and we did not have the room to employ -- the other collection type devices that use hoses. That hook up to the apparatus so that was really what what what enables us to do that the blessing that team down then allowed us to do this. Was actually. One of the AFG grants. That's FEMA was offering and we -- able to get this paid for through a FEMA grant which. Allowed us to do and a lot more quickly then that we would have been able to do it otherwise the very best feature. That I see. As a benefit of installing this system is the elimination. Of the carcinogenic. Material that accompanies diesel smoke second. Most advantageous thing is the opportunity. To have a system that eliminates this -- the carcinogens. And have -- operating independently. Free of any. Equipment that has to be hooked up to the apparatus. It allows the streaming totally flexible in in my particular situation. In our communities. Dad is critical because of the -- of our fires station. If some -- asked me whether it was a good investment I would I would give it a hearty endorsement.
