[MUSIC] Hello and welcome to fire engineering's training minutes. My name's Todd Taylor, I'm a Battalion Chief for the Wayne Township Fire Department. Today we're here to look at a cab that's rolled over onto its side. And we have limited access. To reach the driver or the passengers. You may have to breach through the top of the sleeper and the cab itself, in order to do that. As we go in, we do our 360, we're going to look at the front windshield. We could take the front windshield out but it's going to limit our access to taking the driver out. Most of our drivers are going to be trapped in the seated position, hopefully wearing their seatbelt, and somewhere around the steering wheel. So we'd have to manipulate them around the steering wheel to get them out. The best way to do it is gonna be to breach the top. With the advent of all the aerodynes and the fiberglass, it makes it much easier for us to do. We've done our 360 to ensure there are no other hazards involved in a scene. We've also stabilized the tuck itself. What we're getting ready to do now is make access to the cab itself. In this case was have some sort of a sun roof or a moon roof. You may not have that. If that's not there simply make an inspection hole. As we come up, this may or may not be laminated glass. We're going to make a punch through. That will give us room to get the sawsall in. The sawsall will go to work. As we move around to the back. We also have to get somebody inside of the cab, it's very important. In order to get inside the cab, you may have to make the hole in back bigger or breach the cab itself. If you breach that cab, make sure that you take a look inside to see if we don't have anybody there. The job of the position on the inside is not only to assess the driver. It's to assess any of the hazards that are inside. We're using a Saw Zaw blade to cut through. Saw Zaw blades maybe get jammed up on any of the interior pieces that are there. The person on the inside of the cab is gonna assist with those finds, and ask Zack to stop. Cutting the window out, these guys live in these cabs you may find some homemade piece of equipment or even some pre manufactured stuff inside the cabs, that are gonna cause you problems during [UNKNOWN], and again, you're in here. Recon person can assess that to make sure that your Sawzall doesn't get cut up, caught up. [LAUGH] Great access through the, the top of the cab. Now we're bringing that Sawzall back. And with the advent of the aerodyne this entire cab can be opened up, give us great access to the interior. The driver may very well be trapped just by the steering wheel or by the air seat. May also be trapped by about anything else that could be in there. By getting us as much access as we can, this will supply the best way to get in. You first admit a gun inside the cab. They're actually pulling apart the interior. That will allow that recon person to take a look. That were you saw the blade in. We've also taken an air chisel on the inside with us, so that we can remove any of the obstacles that maybe there. Most of your air time, most of the top of you cab, are all, [UNKNOWN] gonna be fiberglass. Saw jaw gonna be just fine getting through that. You may have to have a ladder to access the top of it, or you can go [INAUDIBLE]. Maybe bring a roll back wrecker in to that done. You are gonna have some sort of support stringers going from left to right and front to back and they have to overcome. That just provides additional support for the aerodyne itself. This technique allows us to work with a limited. Limited number of rescuers able to perform the most work to get the biggest access into the cab. Again as you've seen the 'cause on the air's result, really is a [UNKNOWN] tool, that were going to use on this operation. [NOISE] [INAUDIBLE] [NOISE]. The interior and the exterior rescuers are now working together, at this point, to finish the breach. And as you can see, the entire top of the cabin's come off. It is a large opening for us to get into to access our victim. By using an air chisel and a [UNKNOWN], we've been able to access the entire roof. Of the cab. It made the opening large enough, not only could we access the victim, possibly take the victim out on a backboard, but if we had to do any additional extrication, we can take our extrication tools into the pathway that we've made.
