'Lightweight Roof Ventilation -- A Viable Option?'

Over the years, numerous aspects within the United States fire service have dramatically changed, resulting in enhanced suppression operations and a fireground that is steadily degrading, to the detriment of suppression personnel. Ventilation operations can eliminate or minimize the hazards from the modern thermal layer and flashover for firefighters, but these operations are often conducted within or on top of buildings -- this should raise a concern about ventilating modern building construction, which offers less time before collapse when it is exposed to heat and/or fire. This presentation will consider the viability of ventilating these roofs in light of firefighter safety concerns.
