JERSEY CITY, N. J. Quietness seems to have been the order of last week in Jersey City. Only one fire occurred, j and scarcely any other event worthy of note. At the meeting of the Commissioners, last Tuesday night, a complaint was made against Martin Ryan, stoker of Enine No. I. Ryan had a severe attack of sickness, brought on by Jersey lightning—some call it intoxication—on the 8th day of December, while patroling the floor of company quarters. The Board will investigate his case next Tuesday morning. James Fitzpatrick was appointed a hoseman of Engine No. 2, R. W. B. Welsh’s resignation as foreman of Hook and Ladder Company No. 5, was tendered and accepted. Arthur McGucker was appointed hoseman of Engine No. 8, to take effect December 15th.
