Hotel Fire Escapes.

Issue 16 and Volume 1878 1.

Hotel Fire Escapes. The New Orleans Democrat says: “Chief Engineer O’Connor wishes us to call the attention of our legislators to the fact that, although a law was enacted at the session of 1877 of the Legislature, requiring hotel keepers to provide their establishments with certain contrivances to enable their guests to escape in case of fire, none have complied with the law. The Chief Engineer thinks that the law should be amended in a manner to provide for an inspector or other officer, whose duty it shall be to see that the law is enforced. As the law stands, no such provision is made, and it is, therefore, ineffectual.”
