City and Vicinity. The New York Department. ENGINE COMPANY NO. l6. At No. 223 East Twenty-fifth street, between Second and Third avenues, is located Engine Company No. 16. The house is a three-story brownstone front, 25 x 65, with a small yard in the rear, wherein the members of the Company indulge their taste for floriculture. A small fountain throws aloft its cooling spray from the centre of this yard, while vines of luxuriant foliage are trained upon the walls and fences and bright flowers blossom in neatly arrayed beds. As the yard is in the shadow of the building a good portion of the day, the members make of it a sitting room, and here spin their yarns and speculate as to how soon the piano factory in the rear will bum up and give their house a scorching.
