The Newark “Unpleasantness.” The insurance papers are censuring the Newark authorities considerably because Chief Benedict, in compliance with a resolution of the Council, refused to send apparatus to East Newark to extinguish the fire that destroyed Peter’s oil cloth factory. At the time the JOURNAL sustained the Newark authorities, on the ground that East Newark had refused to provide herself with fire apparatus, and had preferred to depend upon the charity of her neighbor for fire protection. Since then we have learned further particulars regarding the relations of the two corporations, and are more than ever convinced that Newark owes no favors or courtesies to her sister over the river.
