WHAT THE FIREMEN ARE OFTEN DOING. The probabilities are that Lieut. Ener C. Anderson, of Engine Company No. 17, will, at an early day, be promoted to a Captaincy in the Fire Department. Marshal Benner received an official report Saturday afternoon from Capt. Cook, who commands the company to which Anderson is attached, giving details of the heroic conduct of the young man at the Barnes House fire, and highly recommending him for promotion. The report says that at the fire at the Barnes House Friday afternoon the flames communicated to the stairways leading Jo the upper story and cut off all retreat from it. There were three women in that part of the house at the time, and their frantic cries for help were heartrending.
