PROPOSALS FOR HOSE. Brooklyn recently advertised for more hose, under the same conditions that previous purchases have been made, viz.: a deposit of §500 with the bid as evidence of good faith on the part of the bidder; a bond for $10,000, representing Brooklyn real estate; the hose to be guaranteed for four years; twenty-five per cent of the purchase money to be retained by the city the full term of the guarantee, and twenty-five per cent additional for two years. Several of the manufacturers refused to compete on these terms, declining to deliver their goods except on payment of their full value. The other conditions they were ready to accept. When the bids were opened, the two lowest bids were put in by the New York Belting Company, and the Gutta Bercha and Rubber Company, both for carbolized hose.
