TOPICS OF THE DAY Two days before Plumbly & Gould’s cooper shop at Buffalo was burned, the proprietors were served with a notice to the effect that the Fire Commissioners had caused their premises to be examined, and that they were found in an unsafe and dangerous condition, by reason of their liability to take fire from the business carried on therein. Further, by order of the Board, they were required to repair and put the building in a safe and proper condition without delay. There is a clause in insurance policies by which liability is disclaimed if the loss or damage is in consequence of any neglect or violation of any law or ordinance. Doubtless the underwriters interested would be prone to take advantage of this provision if it were not for the fact that a certain number of days grace are usually allowed in legal matters, and it…
