The New York Fire Commissioners have prepared plans for a small fire-proof building to be erected on the Forty-second street Reservoir, for storing a duplicate set of fire alarm instruments. The building will cost $10,000. It is proposed to amend the law governing the Relief Fund of the New York Fire Department, giving the Fire Commissioners more power to use their discretion. As an illustration of the necessity for the amendment, the case of Huch Gaffney, who lost his eye-sight while in the discharge of his duty at a fire, and gets only $600 a year pension, is cited.
