TOPICS OF THE DAY. WE give up a large portion of our space this week to a report of the proceedings of the New York State Firemen’s Convention, which convened at Kingston on Tuesday. It was a large and successful gathering of Firemen, and the occasion was greatly enjoyed. The grand parade did not occur until Friday, too late to receive mention in this issue of THE JOURNAL. Utica was selected as the place at which to hold the Convention next year. SOMETIME since we printed a paragraph noting the fact that the Firemen supported journals devoted to their interests better than the policemen do, and that all attempts to cater to the two services in one journal had resulted in failure.
