THE NEW ORLEANS FIRE DEPARTMENT. A BRIEF HISTORY, EMBODYING AN INTERESTING RECORD OF THE RISE, PROGRESS AND PROSPERITY OF THE DEPARTMENT. It is now over a half a century since the first fire company was organized in this city. Originating with the people, the Department has always been of the people; and in its long and useful career involves both the social and public history of the city and State. It cannot be otherwise than interesting to open the dusty records of the past and see who the men were, and their deeds, that laid the foundations of this now powerful organization.
