TOPICS OF THE DAY THE board of management of the New Orleans Exposition emphatically deny the report that the exhibition is to be closed because of the failure of the New Orleans city council to appropriate money for their relief. They declare that this refusal only intensifies their determination to carry the thing successfully through to the end of the programme. The firemen’s tournament is soon to occur, and this, in connection with the annual celebration of the New Orleans Department, that occurs at the same time, will be an attractive feature of the Exposition, and very sure to assemble large crowds in that city for several days. We trust nothing will interfere to prevent this being made a great success.
