MEN AND THINGS. The borough of Norwalk, Conn., has voted to put in a system of electric fire alarm at a cost not to exceed $2000. The Attleboro, Mass., fire district has voted$2000 for the Gamewell fire alarm telegraph, to consist of ten signal stations and a steam whistle at the pumping station. The Board of Fire Commissioners of Baltimore, Md., has awarded a contract for 1800 feet of Eureka fire hose to Eureka Fire Hose Co. of New York, Mr. Markey being as usual “on top.” The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Philadelphia Fire Department, at its last meeting, awarded to the Eureka Fire Hose Co. a contract for 16,000 feet of its fire hose. G. B. Markey represented the Eureka company, and carried off the prize order for 1886. Simuel Eastman & Co. report an increasing demand for their improved standard leather hose.
