THE LONDON FIRE BRIGADE MISCELLANY. The following is a condensation of the annual report of the Metropolitan Board of Works relative to the operations and equipments of the London Fire Brigade. We print only such portions as are of a purely local nature: The Metropolitan Fire Brigade act, which imposes on the board the duty of extinguishing fires and of protecting life and property in case of fire in the metropolis, was passed in the year 1865, and came into operation on the first day of the following year. It was preceded by negotiations, which were spread over a considerable time, between the home secretary on behalf of the government, the board and the fire Insurance companies ; and the bill laid before Parliament by the home secretary, upon which the act was based, was the outcome of the negotiations.
