FURNISHING WATER TO FIRE ENGINES. VALUABLE paper on the efficacy of a pipe system for furnishing water to fire engines, by S. Bent Russell of St. Louis, published in volume V. (1886) of the journal of the Association of Engineering Societies, has just been brought to our attention, and we would commend its careful perusal to our readers. It is too long and too replete with formula? and tables of various kinds, useful as they are, to bear reproduction in the limited space at our command, and still we feel that some of the points incidentally presented by Mr. Russell should receive notice on our part for the benefit of our readers. The problem which Mr. Russell discusses is how to furnish at any point in a city a sufficient quantity of water to supply a maximum number of fire engines, and use the least quantity (tonnage) of pipes, consistent…
