FIRE DEPARTMENT —Merchantville, Pa., is organizing a fire department. —Camden (N. J.) firemen want an increase of salaries. —Weymouth, Mass., has re-elected its board of engineers. —The firemen of Rochester, N. Y., ask for $10 a month increase of pay. —Floods have been doing much damage in New England during the past week. —P. M. Judd has been elected chief engineer of the fire department of Chicopee, Mass. —Cattle are slaughtered by electricity in St. Petersburg, Russia. Death is instantaneous. —Our correspondent at Fort Keogh, Mon., writes that a new steam fire engine is needed. —Reports from Renovo, Summit Station and Reading, Pa., tell of destructive forest fires. —Newburyport is to purchase 3000 feet of fire hose “ at an expense not exceeding $1500.”—Exchange.
