BOSTON’S FIRE SERVICE. According to the annual report of the fire commissioners of Boston, Mass., which was sent to the aldermen last Monday, there is a total of 238 reservoirs in that city. During the year 250 hydrants have been established and 70 abandoned, making a total increase of 180. The total number in use at present is 5204. There are in service 33 steam engines, 8 chemical engines, 12 horse hose companies, 15 hook and ladder companies. There were 180 horses in the department April 30. There are 62,881 feet of hose in use and 7050 feet in the storehouse. During the year there were 975 alarms of fire. The loss from fires was $784,667, which was more than covered by the insurance of $10,165,6*5, which was placed on the property.
