Chiefs Hale and Hills Hurt at a Fire. Chiefs Hale of Kansas City, Mo., and Hills of Kansas City, Kan., both met with mishaps at the burning of a factory at the latter named place on September 19. Chief Hale was on a roof directing his men, who had come to the assistance of the local department, when someone thoughtlessly removed the ladder. The roof gave signs of falling in and the chief took to the hose. This, however, was burned off above him before he reached the ground and he fell, foriunately escaping with slight injuries. Chief Hills was less fortunate, being thrown from his horse against the curb and severely hurt. He will, however, recover. Two thousand eight hundred and sixty-one firemen participated in the parade at the volunteer firemen’s convention held at Carlisle, Pa., last week.
